Seasonal Lawn Care Maintenance Program

The seasonal program offers a solution for our clients who do not have a need for a weekly maintenance program. A specially trained crew will perform all the seasonal service functions which are as follows:

  • Deep hand pruning
  • Ground cover control e.g. ivy, vinca
  • Hand weeding
  • Trenching of all bedlines
  • Mulching
  • General landscape cleanup

We recommend this service two to three times per year.

Mowing and Edging

With our weekly mowing service, your yard will always look neat, trimmed and manicured. Our team is properly trained and has all of the equipment needed to keep your lawn looking its best. Your yard will be cut in different direction every week to help maintain healthy roots by reducing compaction of the soil. Grass clippings are never left lying in clumps on the yard and sidewalks or driveways are blown off. We keep all of our mowers updated and well maintained with sharp blades that prevent scalping and leave your turf looking serene.

Our edging services include choices in metal, wood, stone, Landscape Paver Design & Installation or Bluestone Walkways

Moss Control

Mosses, like most lawn weeds, primarily take advantage of bare areas but do not kill out existing grass as some people believe. Bare areas in lawn can be result from several causes. Unsuitable grass varieties, poor drainage, drought, soil compaction, excessive shade, thatch accumulation, poor fertility, diseases, improper mowing and other cultural practices are common reasons for turf failure leading to moss or other weed problems. Improving these factors to encourage thick, healthy grass is the key to long term prevention. Moss can be killed with products containing ferrous sulfate, ferrous ammonium sulfate and although these products will kill existing moss, unless the underlying conditions are changed, moss or other weeds are likely to reappear. Raising the soil pH with agricultural or dolomitic lime can improve availability of nutrients and supply calcium and thus helping the turf grow better, but will not kill moss directly.

Our Moss Control services include:

  1. Use a moss control product to kill existing moss in late winter or early spring.
  2. Landscaping Maintenance Programs: or rake out dead moss, or skip step (1) and dethatch or rake with more vigor.
  3. Lawn Overseeding bare areas with a mixture turftype ryegrasses or ryegrass/fescue blend.
  4. Topdress seeds with about l/4 inch of loose weed-free soil, potting mix, or sand.
  5. Keep moist until seedlings are established.

Lawn Overseeding

Lawn overseeding can greatly benefit lawns that are at least 10 years old. Older turfgrasses need more fertilizer and watering, and appear “worn out”. Overseeding utilizes newer turfgrass varieties that have been developed to better withstand insects, disease, shady conditions, drought and heavy traffic. A renovated lawn looks healthier and stays greener. You will realize your investment in less fertilizer and water. After overseeding, your lawn will also be treated with a starter fertilizer which will help insure optimal growth.

Lawn Core Aerating

Core aeration is the process of mechanically removing plugs of thatch and soil from the lawn and should be done every 3 years. Aeration opens the soil, helps reduce compaction, improves water infiltration, improves rooting, reduces thatch and acts in many other ways to improve the lawn and reduce stress. Lawn aeration restores the vital “nooks and crannies” to the soil. To maintain a healthy lawn through periods of stress, the soil needs water, air and nutrients in the top 6 to 10 inches. Soils that are hard and compacted like our clay, have no “nooks and crannies” to hold the water, air or nutrients. Without these crucial components, root growth is impeded, which prevents the grass from developing the deep root system that is essential to survive in hot and dry or harsh and cold periods. Core aeration can be used to minimize thatch accumulation, to modify its physical characteristics, and to reduce soil compaction. Soil plugs are deposited on the turf surface (see left). These plugs then break down and redistribute soil throughout the thatch layer. The soil from the plugs helps to modify the physical structure of the thatch, making it a better growing medium.

Lawn and Sod Installation

Sod installation can be a great alternative to seeded grass when starting a new lawn or for lawn repair. Grass sod is professionally grown and then transplanted to your location for an instant lawn. Proper sod installation is important to help the roots establish themselves. Whether your have a new construction project, a specific area of your existing lawn, or completely starting your lawn over, we can help!

Our Sod Installation Services Include:

Lawn Preparation

  • We start by removing old grass and smoothing out remaining topsoil.
  • More top soil is added and spread out. Low areas are filled in and plant beds are established.
  • A lawn roller smooths out and settles the soil before your new sod is installed.

Sod Installation

  • Your new sod is installed, making sure there are no gaps and everything lines up properly.
  • A final roll to smooth out the sod and press out any trapped air.
  • Pick up any debris and sweep up to make sure your lawn looks clean.
  • And finally a good watering - This is the most important step after the sod has been installed.

Poison Ivy & Poison Oak

Poison Ivy Removal

Poison Ivy (above) and Poison Oak (below) are most easily removed early in the season before growth begins. Landscaping With Hart can identify and eliminate these irritating plants before they sprout identifying leaves.

Poison Oak Removal

Later in the season, removal of these plants is more difficult when rash-inducing oils are "ripe". Both Poison Ivy and Poison Oak tend to grow among and around rocks, trees and other protective structures, adding to the difficulty of removal.

Weed-whacking these plants explode the oils into a fine mist that can penetrate to any skin covered by loose-fitting clothing and garden gloves. Call Landscaping With Hart to eradicate these nuisances before they come into contact with family or guests, especially children.
